After weeks of rumors and speculation of who will be calling the shots for the Petron Blaze Boosters starting next conference, SMC management announced Friday that former San Miguel Beer point guard turned Assistant Coach Olsen Racela will taking over the coaching chores, replacing Ato Agustin.
Hector Calma, Petron Blaze Boosters team manager, confirmed that Olsen who is curently coaching the Energen Team Pilipinas in the FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship will be the new headcoach of the squad starting the 38th season of PBA.
“It’s Olsen. We don’t know what to expect now, but we know Olsen has clout among the players, particularly the veterans,” said Calma to InterAKTV.
Meanwhile, coach Bo Perasol has been released by the GlobalPort, the Mikee Romero-owned squad which bought the Powerade franchise. He will be replaced by Glenn Capacio on an interim basis.
It was earlier reported that Perasol will be coaching the Ateneo Blue Eagles next season to take over for Norman Black, who is leaving to coach Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters in the PBA.
