Rain or Shine Elasto Painters came back strong with an 83-76 victory in Game 7 to bagged the 2012 PBA Governors Cup championship Sunday night before the jampacked crowd of 21,853 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The Elasto Painters playing minus their star rookie guard Paul Lee who re-aggravating his shoulder injury in Game Two of the series.
This is the first PBA title of Rain or Shine in franchise history after joining the league in 2006.
Best player of the game is Jamelle Cornley with 20 points and 14 rebounds while Jeff Chan and Gabe Norwood contributed 16 and 15 markers, respectively.
“This is a very special group. We have a zero experience in the championship and they’ll get better,” Elasto Painters coach Yeng Guiao said who also got his sixth title as a coach.
Marqus Blakely fouled out with still 8:30 remaining in the game.
Llamados local 1-2 punch, James Yap and Peter June Simon, missing their shots in the final period. Yap led all scorers with 23 points.
Meanwhile, Rain or Shine Jeff Chan was named Most Valuable Player of the Governors’ Cup finals by the PBA Press Corps.
Congratulations to Rain or Shine for taking away the 2012 PBA Governors' Cup championship trophy.
