Another heart-breaker! The Smart Gilas just couldn't connect their outside shots and Qatar wins in the battle for third place in the 4th FIBA Asia Cup Saturday in Tokyo, Japan. Final score is 79-63.
Poor 3-pt. shooting spelled doom for Smart Gilas in this game against the battle tested Qatar as they shot just 2 of 18 from rainbow country or an anemic 11% accuracy. They were also outrebounded by Qatar, 47-31.
“It was like we were firing guns without bullets,” Philippine coach Chot Reyes said.
Marcus Douthit, who sprained his ankle in the first half, topscored for the Philippines with 17 points and nine rebounds. Gary David, Jared Dillinger, and Gabe Norwood chipped in 15, 12, and 10 points respectively.
The scores:
Qatar (79) – Mohmmed 17, Johnson 16, Abdi 14, Saeed 10, Daoud 7, Salem 5, El-Hadary 4, Mohammed 4, Ali 2.
