Philippines' first submarine underwater tour to operate soon in Cebu

It's more FUN in Cebu, Philippines!




Thinking about going on a Cebu Island Tour? You should! Imperial Palace Water Park, a resort in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, will offer the country's first submarine underwater tour packages soon.

Cebu Yellow Submarine, arrived in Cebu from Thailand last July 27, can accommodate at least 50 passengers for a breath taking underwater views of colorful fish, corals in depths of Cebu.

Cebu Yellow Submarine tours is tentatively scheduled to start September 2012.

Missing Robredo's Pilot is Cebu's local hero in delivering cobra anti-venom for a snake-bitten patient

Captain Jessup M. Bahinting, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Mactan-based aircraft rental company, Aviatour Air, was the pilot of the ill-fated plane carrying Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.




Capt. Bahinting immediately sent one of his light planes to Camiguin Wednesday afternoon to pick up four vials of anti-venom from Camiguin General Hospital despite stormy weather that eventually saved the life of a Cebu Zoo keeper, Ronaldo Aventurado, who was bitten by a King Cobra.

City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) Board Chairman Sylvan Jakosalem said, "He didn’t hesitate to help when I called him."

Capt. Bahinting and his flying school were due to receive a Lifesaver Award from the Cebu City government, according to Jakosalem. 

Let us all pray for the safety of Capt. Jessup Bahinting, his co-pilot Nepalese Kshitiz Chand, and DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Ironman 70.3 Philippines swim, bike and run courses (Why "70.3"?)

All is set for Sunday’s 4th edition of the Cobra Energy Drink Iron Man 70.3 Philippines, the first triathlon event happening in Cebu with more than 1,000 world’s best and the country’s finest triathletes joining the race.





Why “70.3”? Well, this refers to the total distance in miles covered by the race:

• 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim

• 56-mile (90 km) bike ride

• 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run

Local celebrities like Piolo Pascual, Matteo Guidicelli, Drew Arellano, Richard Gutierrez, Tessa Prieto, and Senator Pia Cayetano are expected to be around to compete.

Long-weekend awaits Cebuanos (August 6 - Cebu Province Charter Day)

It will be a long week-end for Cebuanos starting August 4 to 6, 2012.





August 6, Monday, marks the 443rd founding anniversary of Cebu province and was declared a special non-working holiday.

According to Republic Act 8952, "August 6 every year a special non-working public holiday in the province of Cebu to include its highly urbanized cities of Cebu and Mandaue and its component cities of Lapu-Lapu, Danao and Toledo."
Anniversary mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Capitol Social Hall to be followed by a program at 1:30 p.m. where Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia will deliver her message and make some announcements.

Cebu-based call center closes shop, more than 600 loses their jobs

More than 600 call center agents loss their job after Cebu-based call center company, Direct Access Corporation, closed shop Monday night.





According to the report, the company is one of the locators at Asiatown I.T. Park in Cebu City and due to financial losses, they suspended its operation effective July 30 for a period of six months.

“If the company could not recover financially, there will be a permanent retrenchment on the sixth month where you will be paid what is due under the Philippine labor laws. Thank you for your continued understanding of the company’s situation,” said chief operating officer of the company, Jeffrey Newman, on his notice sent to his employees.

However, the employees lamented that they were caught off guard with the sudden closure of the company and file a complaint letter to the Department of Labor and Employment-7.

SM Prime Holdings Inc. is opening its 43rd shopping mall in the country, SM City Consolacion in Cebu North Road, Barangay Lamac, Consolacion on Friday, June 1.

VECO Launches New Cebu Brownouts Reporting via TEXT

The Visayan Electric Company (VECO) consumers now have another way of reporting or inquiring power outages in their area after the power distribution utility launched this week its ASKVECO Outage text feature.






Recognizing the importance of costumer convenience, VECO senior vice-president for engineering, Sebastian Lacson, Sr. said in a press conference that with the new facility, consumers are assured that their inquiries on power outages and power restorations will be responded to right away.

"This is also part of Veco’s serious commitment in utilizing technology for convenience and easy access to customers," Lacson added.

VECO consumers are given three options to report or inquire a power outage. Such options include: 

1. text ASKVECO (space) OUTAGE (space) Veco Account I.D
2. text ASKVECO (space) OUTAGE (space) Veco Pole Number 
3. text ASKVECO (space) OUTAGE (space) Complete Address 

Smart/Talk ‘n Text / Red Mobile subscribers can send their messages to 391-8326, while Sun Cellular users can send theirs to 0922-9998326.

After the customer texts to any of those numbers, Veco will respond with a text message giving the sender the cause of the outage and power restoration time. Then Veco will dispatch its e-crew to the customer’s site to check and fix the problem, especially in the event of a non-scheduled brownout.

Apriel Smith of Lumad Basakanon bested 13 other lead dancers and was crowned the Sinulog Festival Queen 2012 on Friday night at the Cebu City Sports Center. Sinulog Festival Queen is a contest for the best and the most graceful female lead dancer before the Grand Parade.

2012 SINULOG sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan WINNERS Bared

There were 17 contingents from different schools in Cebu province, 6 in elementary and 11 in secondary, competing for the Sinulog sa Kabataan (Lalawigan) held at the Cebu City Sports Complex on Saturday, January 7.









The Sinulog sa Kabataan is one of the highlights a week prior to the grandest and most colorful festivals in the Philippines - the Cebu Sinulog Festival, to honor the Santo Niño, or the child Jesus.

Here are the winners of the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan 2012:

ELEMENTARY:

5th: Santa Filomena Elementary School, Alegria (2011 - 2nd placer)

4th: Bogo City Division

3rd: San Roque Elementary School, Talisay City (2011- Champion)

2nd: Tuyan Central Elementary School, Naga City, Cebu

SINULOG Idol 3 Finalists

The search is on for the 2012 Sinulog Idol. This year, 12 finalists were officially introduced and will be vying for the title.








Sinulog Idol is a singing competition and a joint project of the Cebu City Government, Sinulog Foundation Inc., Center for Pop Music Philippines and Soundtraxx Productions Studio.

The 12 Finalists will compete each other comes January 6, 2012, the start of the nightly elimination round that will run until January 12.

Miss Cebu 2012 Finalists

The search is on for the 2012 Miss Cebu pageant. This year, twelve lovely beauties were officially introduced as the finalists and will be vying for the title.












Miss Cebu 2012 Pageant is organized by the Cebu City Government through Cebu City Tourism Commission and Cebu City Tourism Foundation, Inc.

Online voting for Miss Cebu 2012's Miss Photogenic is now open at SM Northwing, Ayala and cebucitytourism.com

According to Miss Cebu Official FB page, 50 percent of the total score will come from online votes and the other 50 percent from photographers' votes.

Coronation night will be on January 11, 2012, a Wednesday, at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Hotel.

BIG FIRE hits GAISANO MALL in CEBU

A fire hits Gaisano Capital South on Leon Kilat St., Cebu City on Friday, 12:42 a.m, December 23, 2011. At least 30 fire trucks and several firefighters from all over Cebu province continue battling a predawn fire for more than 17 hours that gutted an eight-storey shopping mall.








A mall security guard has said he heard a loud explosion followed by a thick smoke. The fire started at the second floor of the shopping mall and has reached a general alarm.

As of this posting, fire officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire and the amount of damage it caused. Firefighters continue fighting blazes. They actually used aerial ladders to aim their hoses and water cannons.

The mall had earlier scheduled a Christmas midnight sale Friday night.
