Smart Gilas 2.0 lineup named, readies for 2012 FIBA Asia Cup in Japan (See Schedule)

After winning the 34th William Jones Cup, coach Chot Reyes SMART-Gilas 2.0 will be heading to Tokyo, Japan for the 4th FIBA Asia Cup slated on September 14 to 22.

The FIBA Asia Cup, previously known as the FIBA Asia Stanković Cup, serves as the qualifying event for the 27th FIBA Asia Championship in 2013, which in turn will be the qualifying event for 2014 FIBA World Cup to be held in Spain.

“We hope to make the top three to go home with a medal,” coach Reyes said.

PH Youth Team routs Saudi Arabia, 95-52, in FIBA-Asia Under-18

Energen Pilipinas U-18 five splashed its deadly form offensively in the early part of the tournament by defeating Saudi Arabia, 95-52, in the 22nd FIBA-Asia Under-18 Championship at the Buyant-Ukhaa Arena in Ulan Bator, Mongolia Friday night.

The youth players of Energen coach Olsen Racela, University of the Philippines stalwart Janus Kyle Suarez led the PH Team with 15 points while National University Rodolfo Alejandro contributed for 14 points, La Salle Green Hills Mario Bonleon 13 points, UAAP juniors 2012 MVP Jerie Pingoy 11 points and former NCAA juniors MVP Rey Nambatac chipped in 10 points to opened their campaign on a high note.

The Philippines was bracketed in Group D with two-time champion Iran and 2008 runner-up Kazakhstan for the preliminary round. 

The 16-nation Fiba Asia U18 Championship serves as a qualifier for the Fiba U19 World Championship set in Czech Republic from June 27 to July 7, 2013.
